the text was originally written in 2003; it took a long time to figure out; revised when the blog post was being prepared and since revised twice since posting in an attempt to verify the parents of Zimri Dwiggins and thus the great-grandparents of WAD

difficulties due to Quaker records excluding non-Quakers, to inaccurate transcriptions of census records, to gaps in search engines, and above all to many people having identical names—and records that either do not exist or have yet to be digitized (e.g. where is the marriage record of Robert and Sarah?)

no marriage records—Curtis family record says 1807 [probably based on Sarah’s mou]

apparently moved to Ohio c.1807

1820 United States Census (August 7, 1820) in Union Township, Clinton County

several Dillons lived nearby; no record of Sarah

1850 United States Census age 75 (born in North Carolina) living in Clinton County with Zimri [misread as Zimie] Dwiggens [sic] (age 23), Phebe [sic] A. Dwiggins (age 22), Charles B. Dwiggins (age 4 /12), and Robert J. Dwiggins (age 19)

all living two “doors” from Moses Frazier family; Zimri real estate worth $300 but Sarah’s worth $3000

1860 United States Census living with Nancy (daughter; age 37), Isaiah (age 14) and Rebecca M Hazard (granddaughter, age 14); next door to Robert J Dwiggins and family (Rebecca and Charles E.)

no information on Isaiah Woolery Dwiggins other than born 14 May 1846, married

1870 United States Census farmer living in Union Township with Mary Rebecca (age 24; single)

Hazard was daughter of Martha Dwiggins and Zebulon Hazard (d. 1857); married Calvin Leonard in 1867

 

find a grave says she was born in Guilford County; confirmed by Quaker disownment of 25 July 1807 p. 133 in New Garden [Guilford County, North Carolina] Monthly Meeting records online; book copied out in 1924–1925

her will included Robert J. Dwiggins, Phoebe A. Dwiggins [Moses’ wife] and Rebecca Hazard as heirs
